The newest addition to the NYCB Family of Banks, AmTrust Bank was founded in 1889 in Cleveland, Ohio, where it served customers for 118 years under the name Ohio Savings Bank. In 2007, it changed its name to AmTrust Bank to better reflect the scope of its franchise. After all, in 1995, Ohio Savings Bank had acquired AmTrust Bank, FSB, a Florida-based institution, and in 2000, it had opened its first branch in Arizona under the AmTrust Bank name.
On December 4, 2009, the former AmTrust Bank commenced operation as a division of New York Community Bank, the savings bank subsidiary of New York Community Bancorp, Inc., and the second largest savings bank in the United States.
